Parts Info

Let’s take a dive into the computer you want to build by learning what makes it run!  We are happy to answer questions or make recommendations for any of the parts you will need as we work with you to build your custom computer.

The Motherboard

We can consider the motherboard like the nervous system.  Everything is connected to the motherboard to both power the various parts and enable communication between them.

CPU

“The brains of the operation.” This little chip is what makes the entire computer tick. The abbreviation “CPU” stands for “Central Processing Unit.” The CPU you will need to get the job done greatly depends on what you will be doing with your computer.

Random Access Memory (RAM)

RAM sticks are used for short term memory and also provide the capability to multitask without straining your computer.  RAM comes in various amounts.  For a custom build, we highly recommend getting at least 32GB of RAM.  This could be a single 32GB stick or two 16GB sticks… of course, 32GB is not the limit!

CPU Cooler

The CPU cooler’s job to to make sure your CPU doesn’t overheat and potentially melt in your computer because your CPU can get very hot! There are multiple kinds of CPU coolers from fans to water cooling systems.

Storage HDD/SSD

The PC’s storage is very important since it stores long term information that you need to run programs, store documents, etc. There are two different kinds of storage: HDD’s (Hard Disk Drives, AKA spinning disk drives) and SSD’s  (Solid State Drives) which are more modern. You’d use SSD’s for programs since they read data a lot faster and you’d use an HDD for storing files and pictures that can take up a massive amount of space.

Graphics Card

Graphics are the pixels that fill up your screen. Graphics cards may be important depending on what you plan on doing with your computer the majority of the time.  A graphics card will be useful for art and design, video editing, or playing games. If you like to use programs that are heavy on graphics you will need a good graphics card to help you out in using those programs.

Power Supply

The life source of the computer, the power supply is what gives your computer the power it needs to be active and running at optimal capacty.

Computer Case

The chassis that contains all the parts of your computer inside. Cases come in many different sizes, so choosing the right size not only for your personal preference but also for fitting in the necessary parts is an important decision.
